Bluetooth core v4.2 update with nRF8001

Hello,

I am working on a project regarding the pairing security of two BLE devices. nRF8001 chip follows the v4.0 specifications which lacks security against passive eavesdroppers during pairing process. Core v4.2 adds ECDH key sharing to remove this threat.

My question is, can this feature be added to current devices (esp. nRF8001) with a firmware update by Nordic?

  • @bgun: You might need to contact our sale representative to know about out future roadmap for the nRF8001.

However, the nRF8001 chip's firmware is not updateable. So I don't think there is a simple way that we can do a firmware update and make the Security Manager on the chip support Bluetooth 4.2. Update if any, will come with a new version of the nRF8001 chip.
