Possible to use nRF52840 Dongle in End-Product ?

Hi Nordic Team,

i have some questions, while evaluating the nRF52840 Dongle.

I know that the dongle is not supposed to be used in end-products, but it fits our needs to upgrade older hardware devices to add BLE functionality by using a USB dongle.

1. Is it possible to use the nRF52840 Dongle in our End-Product and make the needed certification ourselves ?

2. Which steps are to be done for certification of an end-product using the dongle, so first step I understand is the obligatory bluetooth SIG registration, what is then the next step ?

3. When developing a custom firmware, is this also tested and certified ?

4. I want to use the Nordic UART Service through BLE, can i simply use this or does it also need some registration and certification ?

just a thought, if You don't need the GPIOs, You could use an nRF52840 based, certified and ready to use USB dongle offered by 3rd parties...

the thought makes sense, but we need the NFC functionality. Is there a list of 3rd party certified dongles ?

Could you please give short answers to my questions above ?

Hi.

There is no problem using the nRF52840 Dongle in your end-product.

As for certification; As you mentioned you will need to go through atleast certification with BT SIG.
Exactly what certification you will need in addition to that, I'm not 100% sure. I guess it would also depend on if you are certifying the dongle stand-alone or if it is part of a different end-product. 

I suggest that you confer with a test house or a certification-agency about this.

You are also free to use the UART service in your product.
