Error adding my Thingy 91 to nrfCloud

I am getting the error:

There was an error adding your device: No device found with id 'nrf-352656100878829'. Verify you are passing a valid device id and not a device name. Also ensure that your device is powered on and its LED(s) indicate that it is connected to nRFCloud. If the LED(s) do not indicate a connection, there may be a problem with your device certificate. In that case, search Nordic DevZone for "certificate update" for a possible solution.

when adding my Thingy 91.

I think it is because there is no iBasis SIM connectivity in South Africa. Is that correct?

If there is how can I work out if there is connectivity in my particular area?

If not, how long before there is? Is there an alternative way to use the Thingy?

  • Hi.

According to GSMA, there should be national NB-IoT coverage in South Africa.

But, as you say, it does not look like iBasis has any roaming agreements in South Africa.

Is there an alternative way to use the Thingy?

The Thingy:91 can be used with any subscription that supports LTE-M and/or NB-IoT. According to the GSMA deployment map, Vodacom is opperating an NB/IoT netowrk in South Africa.

So, I would recommend you contact them to see if you can get a SIM card/subscription form them that supports NB-IoT.

There was an error adding your device:

But, just to be sure that it indeed is the network connection that is the problem:

What color is the LED, and what does the log from the Thingy say?

    Best regards,

    Didrik
