Setting up PHY to capture adv messages from commercial devices

Hi,

I know that there are different ways to set up the radio, but generally speaking, is there a general practice for how commercial devices' PHYs are set up when advertising?  If not, what are most BLE devices set to?  125/1M/2M, etc?  I am trying to capture the majority of advertisements in an area with a lot of BLE devices, and want to get the most bang for the buck so to speak.  I am at 1M right now and picking up fitbits and some other apple devices...

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello,

It sounds to me like you might be looking for the nRF Sniffer tool - or are you familiar with this tool already?
The sniffer listens in on all BLE advertising traffic in the surrounding area. It is a very powerful tool when developing BLE applications.
As for your question of which PHY is most common I would guess 1M is most widely used today, given how new the 2M is, and the generality of 1M over 125. But this is just by my own estimation, I do not have this empirically.

    Best regards,
    Karl
