How to connect android/iOS app in the mesh network without GATT server

Hello,

I am developing an app which connect to provisioned node using GATT in the mesh network. But the limitation of this is, it has only pair to pair communication. It is creating problem in getting acknowledgements from other nodes in the network.

So that, instead of this I want to connect my app directly to the network using mesh.

How can I achieve this? Is it possible in android and iOS  app?

Hi,

If I understood this correctly, you can connect your phone to the mesh via a proxy link(using the proxy feature). The light switch example in our SDK supports the proxy feature by default, you can test it out with our nRF Mesh app for iOS/Android. I also suggest you have a look at the source code(iOS/Android) for the app.

I am already using nRF mesh app for Android/iOS to check light switch example.

The problem with that is it connects to the node using GATT server. So that I cannot connect the other phone to the same node simultaneously. 

So that I want such a mechanism that my both the phones should connect to the mesh network instead of connecting to any particular node. And both the phones should also receives the messages on the mesh network unlike other on/off clients.

Is it achievable?

Hi,

Smartphones don't support Bluetooth Mesh protocol directly so you won't be able to provision smartphones into the network as a mesh node. As of now our examples only supports one proxy connection, but it is possible to connect multiple phones to a single proxy node. You will need to implement this feature yourself though.

I have already tried to achieve it, but after connecting one phone to a node, then on other phone, that node not displaying in scanning, so that I could not able to connect it. Is any modifications required to be done in mesh library or firmware file?

Do you have any reference documentation or example which I can follow?

I haven't tested this myself but it should be possible. You would need to do some modifications to the example to make it work. 

Unfortunately, we don't have any guides or examples available.
