nRF9160 DK & HW Documentation.

I recently purchased and downloaded the nRF9160DK.  The DK User Guide v0.7 does not match the Altium design files schematics and neither match the application schematic in the Product Specification. I can't be 100% confident which, or if any of them match the actual DK board. Can somebody tell me what is the latest version of each and where to find them?

  • Thanks for the quick reply!

Okay this looks good but a couple of quick notes:

    1) In the 9160 schematic, component R7 is a 2.7pF capacitor. Clearly it should be a capacitor and the component designation is in error

    2) In the user guide section 5.3.2 "VDD Supply Rail" identifies U22 as the DC/DC buck that sources VDD but on the schematic and as shown in the UG it sources VREG,  also, on the schematic it's U27 not U22 as shown in the UG.

    3) The UG descriptions of SB1 and SB2 are not correct.

None of this is a big problem, the idea becomes clear in each case. But these are just the three such discrepancies that come immediately to mind, I'm sure I could fill a page or more  if I chose to take the time.

Thanks again for the link to the latest, I'll work with these.

  • Thank you, I have let our technical writers know about these discrepancies and I'm sure they will find more if they start looking, as you say.

I see the UG on infocenter v.0.9.2, so I wonder if there exists an updated version that should be linked there instead.

Nevertheless, thank you for letting us know. If you want, I can update this case when the issue is fixed.

    Best regards,

    Heidi

  • If it would not be too much inconvenience, yes please do.

    Thanks Again,

  • Hi!

So the User Guide describes the schematic of the newest nRF9160 DK that customers can buy, which is the 0.9.0 version attached below.

The newest schematic available on our website, version 0.10.2 isn't available to consumers just yet but was published because it has a slightly improved GPS performance. This is why the doc does not reflect the newest design. The UG will be updated once this version is for sale.

As for your point number two:

It supplies VDD, but the domain gets called VDD a bit further down the line.

    1. From net "VREG" the power goes to a set of switches that selects if "VREG" should be used or a voltage follower should be used. By default this is the "VREG" being used
    2. After this, the net is called "VSENSE_SW_OUT"
    3. "VSENSE_SW_OUT" goes through the power switch and get called "VDD" after that

I hope this cleared most of it up.

    Best regards,

    Heidi
