Packet size more than 20byte?

Hi I'm confused by this statement... Can my characteristic size be more than 20 bytes?

Each outgoing data packet can contain up to 20 bytes of user data (set by the specification unless higher packet sizes are negotiated).

If I'm implementing central and peripheral role firmware my self, I guess this can be done.

But If I'm implementing nrf51822 as peripheral only and other side to connect is Android Client, is that still possible ?

And how to achieve that?

Your characteristic can have any size, however the maximum size of a notification is 20 Bytes. So if you data is more than 20 Bytes, you'll divide it into multiple notification( or indication).
