nRF51422 DCDC

I have read a few posts on these forums recommending use of the DC/DC converter only on V3 hardware and up. All of this advice has been given for the nRF51822 rather than the nRF51422.

  • Does the DC/DC converter on the nRF51422 still cause radio interference?
  • Are there multiple hardware revisions of the nRF51422?

Thanks for your help!

  • Hi

For clarification, nRF51422 and nRF51822 are the same chip, the only difference is this:

    nRF51422: You can use all Nordic softdevices, BLE and/or ANT, i.e. S110, S120, S130, S210, S310. Advantage over nRF51822: Capable of all
nRF51822: You can use BLE only softdevices, i.e. S110, S120, S130. Advantage over nRF51422: Slightly cheaper.

The limitation on using the DCDC is related to the softdevices rather than the hardware actually. You can use the DCDC with the latest BLE softdevices, i.e. S110 8.0.0, S120 2.0.0 and S130 0.9.0+ together with the latest third revision nRF51 hardware (nRF51422 or nRF51822), but not with S210 4.0.1 or S310 2.0.1. Take a look at the release notes for the softdevice in question, "limitations" section. Hopefully, there will be available ANT softdevice versions soon that enable use of DCDC

  • Hi,

If I want to enable DCDC can I use the same pcb design or i should change schematic?

    Kind regards, Mikhail
