nRF52840 how much range we can achieve with our selected processor (8 dBm) output

Hi

We are in process to select the nRF52840 for industrial luminar application. currently we are in a proto phase

We have an query below

1. what is the range that can be achieved by Bluetooth with 8dBm power

2. For 50 meters height requirement  can we use and chip antenna

3.Can you share some app note for antenna and its range calulation

4. Parameter affecting the antenna range

5. can you suggest and chip antenna for  ths IC

Thanks ,

  • Hi,

    1. Very difficult to say, since it's a lot of different factors that influences the range, you have have a look at this blog post.
    2. Yes you can use a chip antenna.
    3. This we don't have, you can see the blog post, and read the datasheets about the antennas, from the antenna vendors if you want to use an of the shelf antenna. For a printed monopole antenna, like the once we use on our DK see the blog post and the white paper.
    4. Many parameters; antenna design, RF front end design, antenna tuning, environment.. ect.
    5. I can't suggest a specific antenna, you are welcome to use our printed once that we use in our reference designs. If you want to use a chip antenna, the antenna vendors can help, or some of them also have a selection guide like this

    Best regards,
