Using nRF52840 Dongle with WireShark...

Hello,

There are lots of old threads about using nRF51 and nRF52-DK with Wireshark and special Sniffer firmware.  The newer nRF52840 Dongle, however, doesnt seem to have any references for using with Wireshark.  The nRF52840 Dongle is supported by nRF Connect for Desktop as well as programming through nRFUtil....but the nRF connect doesnt have an option for Sniffer firmware nor any mention of Wireshark.  Am I missing something?

Thank you for any guidance.  thx!

  • Hi Steve.

Have you taken a look at this this documentation for nRF Sniffer for 802.15.4 based on nRF52840 with Wireshark?

    Best regards,

    Marte

  • Marte,

Thank you for your response!  Yes, I had seen that but I disregarded it because I am not not interested in the 802.15.4 protocol.  Sorry I did not specify that in my original post.  I am interested in BLE traffic, specifically advertisements.  I have several nRF52832 peripheral devices all advertising sensor data and I am trying to use the nRF52840 Dongle and Wireshark (or another utility) to monitor (and ideally graph) the incoming advertisement data.

Pardon my ignorance, but does your 802.15.4 Sniffer work with BLE advertisement messages?

NOTE:  The nRF Connect app called "Bluetooth Low Energy" seems to set the nRF52840 up as a serial COM port, but I cannot communicate with it yet.  Putty just sees strange characters.

    Thanks!
