How to change the major/minor via UART communication

For a school project we have to develop a beacon system, to easy use different beacons we want to be able to change the major and minor from the beacons with UART communication. But I can not find a way to change this, I only read about changing it when you connect via bluetooth or when you need to program the nrf51822 chip again.

The beacon firmware that comes with the beacon kits does not enable the UART functionality. So, you would need to re-write the firmware to enable UART and then flash this on to the chip. If you have the newest beacon kit you can flash this over the air using the DFU bootloader. Or if you have a J-link programmer you can flash it directly.
