nRF52840 Development Kit not powering up or showing as USB device. No LEDs pulsating.

The device was working well for around 2 weeks and was able to program it via SES, but now on connecting USB cable to the USB Connector (J2) with SW9 at VDD, no LEDs pulsate and it doesnt show up in device manager or in /dev (Ubuntu). I have tried the following:

1. Tried different USB 2.0 cables with different ports and PCs.

2. Tried putting in the bootloader mode by holding down the RESET switch and toggling power.

3. Uninstalled and Reinstalled latest JLink to detect the connected hardware.

Please let me know if i m missing out on something, or anything else i can do to find the the source of the issue. Thanks in advance.

  • Hi

Have you, by chance cut or soldered any of the onboard solder bridges (I.E. to do current consumption or similar)? Please make sure that all switches on the board are in the following position(s):

    • VEXT->nRF set to OFF
    • nRF power source set to VDD
    • TRACE set to Def.
    • nRF ONLY | DEFAULT set to DEFAULT.

Can you check whether any onboard components might have loosened/fallen off? You can also try powering the board with any of the other possible sources as in case onboard J2 connector/connector circuit is damaged.

    Best regards,

    Simon

  • Hi,

Thanks for such a quick response,

No, I havent soldered or cut any bridges...

Regarding the switches, all are in the position as specified, although I am not aware about how the VEXT -> nRF can be set to off/on.

Apart from this, i was going through some basic troubleshooting and on restarting the PC, and plugging it in, it started working, but after removing and inserting again, it didnt work, could it be the J2 connector problem? Doesnt seem like a driver problem.

    Thanks again.
