How to use JSON file in my nRF52832 sensing application?

Hello guys,

I have already created the JSON file and checked it using the online JSON validator and viewer. Now, I am interested to figure out is it possible to use this JSON file in my nRF52832 sensing application? Can I parse the JSON file and use the data in my code?

Hi,

nRF5 SDK contains cJSON library (external\cJSON), it has simple interface and README with clean examples.

Thanks for this help...but also I forgot to write that I use Zephyr. Is it possible in Zephyr or I need to use some other method?

Hi Adnan,

Zephyr has it's own JSON parser which you can youse. And you can also use cJSON in Zephyr is you like, as nrf_cloud_codec.c is an example of.

But as I saw on the first sight, in both cases I need to create the JSON file based on these examples...or I am wrong? I have already created the classic JSON file based on some online examples, not based on C code. Is that possible to use this one or I need to create a new one based on this code?

Hi Adnan,

Both are parsers for normal (standardized) JSON data, so the data can be written/encoded by any other tool/library that produce valid JSON data. (They may have some limitations (such as no escape characters in strings), though.)

Okay, thanks a lot for this help! I am sorry if I bother you, but this is the first time that I work with JSON files. For example now when I have that document finished, I still cannot figure out how to parse it, you sent me some code, but which part to add in my code, how to add this file? I am still quite confused about that procedure?

I hope that I don't bother you and that I am not asking you some stupid question.

Hi Adnan,

I do not have any sample code other than what I pointed to. But as mentioned before, cJSON for has a good readme if you use that. You need to have the json document as a string (character array), and operate on that. For instance as described here for cJSON.

That's okay, no problem...thank you very much anyway, you helped me a lot with these links and examples. I will try to figure out using cJSON example. I created an JSON document as a string with objects and arrays, and I hope that I will be able to operate with it using this way.
