SES Version Compatibility

Does Nordic recommend a specific version of SES? Should I just download the latest version direct from Segger or do I need a special version of SES to have full compatibility with nRF52 devices?

After browsing the Nordic website and DevZone it's not clear what I should do here. One post mentioned this link:which will download this file: Setup_EmbeddedStudio_ARM_v510b_macos_x64

However if you go to nordicsemi.com and search for Segger you will find this page which directs you to the regular Segger download page where you can download any version you want including the latest version v510. However there is no reference to Nordic on this page.

Generally I want to get the very latest version of SES unless there is some known compatibility problem with Nordic.

The release notes of every nRF5 SDK version specifies which version of SES (and other toolchains) has been used for release testing, and it could make sense to pick the same version. For instance you can see here that SDK 17.0.2 was release tested using SES 4.50. In most cases using a newer version should not cause any problems, though.

Not certainly in that way. sometimes upgrading to a new version leads to interesting bugs. For example,problem with new projects for nrf52 ,my discussion of the problem on the Segger forum.

By the way, it also states that Nordic must provide an updated package (Nordic Semiconductor nRF CPU Support Package).

Thanks for posting, you probably saved me many hours of frustration. I was going to try the latest SES v5.10 but now I will definitely stick to a version referenced in the nRF SDK release notes.

It's my pleasure. I actually spent a few days dealing with project compatibility issues after the upgrade.

Look, the main difference between 4 and 5 studio versions is only in the size of the generated firmware hex file. And only when using the proprietary linker and compiler from Segger. Otherwise, the list of changes is not significant.
