nRF52840 Solder Mask to Silver Clearance

Hi All,

I am currently designing my PCB using nRF52840 chip.

I was using the footprint downloaded which was in nRF52840 dongle pcb library given by Nordic. During DRC I get this error message "Minimum Solder Mask to silver < 6mil).

Currently I have set it to 6 mil because manufacture can support minimum 6 mil.

As you can see in the attached image, purple color indicates the solder mask layer. I have reduced the solder mask manually in the library.

However, I am not sure whether there are any significant drawbacks hope someone can clarify on this and whether my approach is correct or not.

Hi,

You are free to change the solder mask to whatever suits the guidelines of your EMS. If needed you can also make the center pad a bit smaller, only the solder pads should not be moved or made smaller.
