Not detecting nRF9160

Hello There,

I have problems with the installation of the nRF9160. Started the installation earlier and nRF9160 was detected in nRF Connect/Programmer and I could see memory usage and Link Monitor was installed. SIM card was registered and on my way to register the nRF9160 on the cloud and install external GPS etc.

Took a break. When starting the system again there was an update button beside Programmer and Link Monitor. Proceeded with update restart etc. When proceeding I pressed the REST button on nRF9160 to reinstall the firmware for the processor and modem. Then nRF9160 can not be found in nRF Connect/Programmer and the connection is dead.

Lead 3 light is ON solid green, but no action from the card? Do we have a power ON leadlight on the board? 

I have tried the installation on 1 other laptop, but with no success.

Looking forward to some help.

Hi Micael,

Have you done any current measurements on the nRF91DK?

The symptoms sounds like you are missing the jumper:

There is a LED5 beside the Programmer chip that will light up when you power up the device.
Please tor to turn OFF and ON the DK, or disconnect and connect the Cable.

No tools for current measurement. Jumper is where it belongs. LED5 is not ON. Where do we have the programmer chip?

Hi Micael,

Check out what is referred to as Interface MCU, is what I addressed as the "Programmer chip", and right next to it is the LED5.

I would recommend you to try another USB cable as well, and maybe try to connect to another computer.

Hello Martin, hank you for your help.  I'm familiar with Getting Started. The USB cable works with Acconeer radar sensor. LED3 is solid green but LED5 is dead. How can the power be on on LED3 and not LED5?

Hi Micael,
Could you try to disable the MSD of the kit by using the "msddisable" command in J-Link Commander. To enable, use the "msdenable" command. These commands take effect after a power cycle of the DK and stay this way until changed again. REF

After that I would recommend to open cmd and issue 'nrfjprog -e' to erase all.
Then program a precompiled .hex file  e.g. such as: 3108.nrf9160dk_at_client_2019-11-29_d3130d77.hex
