Reading characteristic value out of the peripheral by the central

I am trying to read a characteristics from my peripheral using my central. From what I read here, I have to use sd_ble_gattc_read(). Is it correct ? But I did not find any code example of this specially to handle the related BLE_EVT... Could you help me with this ? Any link to suggest ?

I believe you can use the central examples to show how to initiate connection, do a database discovery of the peer GATT database, and finally read and write the characteristic handles in the GATT database that you are in specific interested in.
