nRF5340 getting started going hard.

The "getting started" guide and setup for nRF5340 a bit complicated...

1. Do you have IAR project example for nRFF5340?

2. What tools and setup are must to run first example? 

We are working in medical devices company and only certified tools can be installed and used.

1. No, there is no support for IAR on the nRF Connect SDK (NCS), which is the only SDK supported by the nRF5340. The recommended IDE to use for NCS is the SEGGER Embedded Studio (SES) Nordic Edition. I recommend you use the Toolchain Manager app on the nRF Connect app for desktop to setup the toolchain and IDE to run your first nRF Connect SDK on the nRF5340. Or you can use 'west' to compile and run your projects directly.

2. One good way to start is to take a look at our NCS tutorials on Devzone, they cover all about setting up the toolchain enviroment with the Toolchain Manager and running your first example project: https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/nordic/nrf-connect-sdk-guides/b/getting-started/posts/nrf-connect-sdk-tutorial

I tried Toolchain Manager to setup and the setup didn’t work. I don’t know why.

You recommend to use Toolchain Manager and I see in the tool very big watermark “Deprecated”. What does it mean?

I solved the setup with very nice setup guide: https://developer.nordicsemi.com/nRF_Connect_SDK/doc/latest/nrf/getting_started.html.

Now it is working ok. Thanks.

 

But I still have question.

What are the SW tools essential to install? I found the requirements here https://developer.nordicsemi.com/nRF_Connect_SDK/doc/latest/nrf/gs_recommended_versions.html

Do all of them are must?

In our company we have very strict control over installation new software. I ran the test setup on test PC station, but currently, I haven’t permission to install all of the tools permanently.

Are you sure you are not confusing the Toolchain Manager app with the deprecated "Getting Started Assistent"? You can find the Toolchain Manager app in the nRF Connect v3.6.0 for Desktop (Windows). See the picture below:

But if you are using something else than Windows this app may not be available. The list in the documentation with the tools that are needed may seem a bit long but all of them are used for a reason. CMake, Ninja and Python are used to build NCS projects, 'west' is used to update the repoes (and can be used to build as well), git for version control and to download the repoes. SES nordic version IDE is not needed if you only want to use west.
