Flashing Nordic Thingy 91

Hi everyone!

I got a Nordic Thingy 91 and I have tested the sample Asset Tracker application. But now, I want to build and program my own application, I was reading this guide but in the sixth step of Building and programming on the command line, part b, it says:

"Connect the Thingy:91 to the debug out port on a 10-pin external debug probe, for example, nRF9160 DK (Development Kit), using a 10-pin JTAG cable."

Does it mean that in order to flash my Nordic Thingy 91 I have to use one nRF9160 DK?

You can use any general purpose J-Link debugger. If this is for educational use, you can use the j-link edu mini. If you happen to have an nRF52 devkit or nRF9160 devkit laying around, those also work as they both have debug-out ports.

But working only with the Nordic Thingy 91, is not possible?

You can boot it into bootloader and you nRFConnect Desktop to flash. To enter bootloader, power off, hold SW3 button, power on, release button.

So, if I turn on the bootloader holding the SW3 button and I open the nRFConnect Desktop, Programmer, can I flash my Thingy91. It's not?

Yes, that is one way to flash it.  For that you need to used the signed hex.  The project generates a few hex files.  Only 2 are to use to flash.  merged hex needs the jtag to flash and signed hex is for flashing using bootloader with nRFConnect.

I was reading about it, i have to use the signed.hex file when I build an application, in order to flash it with MCUboot mode.
