NRF LOG and putty

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a nRF52840 dongle. I can compile the CDC ACM example and it works well. When I open COMx on putty I can see "CDC DEMO" as expected. 

The only problem is that I can't find nrf LOG, is there a way to print this log on putty? If yes, how is it possibile?

Is the project configured to send logs to the UART? Some default to RTT ...

It's a setting in the sdk_config.h file

The Nordic SDK is a bit of a leap for someone new to programming!

Thanks for your answer. I enable NRF_LOG and NRF_LOG_BACKEND_UART from CMSIS configurator but I still don't see any log on putty.

I'm not sure if the UART Backend works over the CDC ACM ?

I've only ever used on the hardware UART.

Do you use putty?

It really doesn't matter what terminal you use - any  one will do.

But, of course, if the logs are not going to that COM port - then no terminal is going to see them!

If the logs are going to RTT, you will need a Segger J-Link debug adaptor and either their standalone RTT viewer, or the viewer in the Segger Embedded Studio (SES) IDE.

For development, it is always recommended to use a Development Kit (DK; the clue is in the name) rather than a Dongle:

1. You get access to the hardware UART
2. You get a built-in Segger J-Link debug adaptor
