s140 and bluetooth 5.1 (AOA)

Hi all,

I am now evaluating the BLE 5.1 supported chips. I see that s140 support ble 5.1 but I see nrf52840 can't support aoa. Is that I need to use nrf52833 with s140 softdevice or I can have another softdevice to use? And which is the minimum requirement for SDK version to support ble 5.1? Thank you.

Best regards,

Marco

  • Hi, indeed, you will need to use the nRF5340, nRF52833 or nRF52811 in order to do direction finding (AoA). None of our SoftDevices as of yet support the direction finding features as of yet I'm afraid though. Direction finding is an optional feature in BLE 5.1, so S140 supports BLE 5.1, but not direction finding specifically. The support we have for direction finding as of yet is rather limited I'm afraid, but if you'd like to start looking at it, we have this whitepaper describing how to configure and enable Bluetooth Direction Finding features in nRF52 and nRF53 series devices.

If you'd like some more details on if and when more support for Direction Finding is coming, please contact the Regional Sales Manager (RSM) of your area. If you don't know who this is or don't have their contact information, please fill out our Sales Related Questions form to get in touch.

    Best regards,
