Long range vs power consumption

Hello

I have two questions. Your thoughtful response will be appreciated.

1) What's the impact on power consumption with 1 Mbps vs 500 kbps vs 125 kbps for the same amount of data transfer and approx. transmit range for these bit rates? For example, does the power consumption double from 1 Mbps to 500 kbps for the same amount of data transfer while the transmit range is increased by 2x with 500 kbps as compared to 1Mbps?

2) Is nRF52840 the most and highly recommended BLE solution for new designs requiring long range?

1) The peak current during RX and TX will be the same for 1 Mbps and 125kbsp, but the radio will be turned on 8 times longer. So the current consumption for the RX and TX only will be 8 times higher. The rest will be the same.

You can check out the online power profiler. If you select the "Connection" role you can change the PHY to CODED S=8 to see how it impacts the current consumption.

2) The nRF52811, nRF52820, nRF52833, nRF52840 and nRF5340 support long range. You will have to check which one fits your requirement.
