PPK 2 not passing through external power in AMP mode

Hello,

We recently received the new Power Profiler kit II, and are having some trouble with the 'Ampere Meter' mode. With an external source connected and DUT power enabled on the desktop application, the output voltage remains at nearly 0; on my multimeter the Vout increases from 0.000 to 0.020 when DUT power is enabled, so I can see that the application is changing something on the hardware.  I have verified that my external supply has its current limit set well above the expected draw, and that the Vin from that external supply remains at the set point when DUT power is enabled.

I have set up the PPK with a single resistor between the Vout and ground lines. When in SMU mode, with a voltage set and DUT power enabled, the output voltage is correct, and the reported current is around the expected value for the given voltage and resistance. We have also set up a second PPK2 with an actual MCU device as the load, but got the same result, Vout of 0 when in AMP mode.

Are there any known issues with AMP mode or further troubleshooting steps to be taken within the application?

Thanks,
Ben

  • You have to turn it on, not so clear from the icon (I'm not being facetious). "Enable Power Output" slider controls both internal and external power to VOUT via one of the two FETs. Edit: If "DUT power enabled" means that slider, then just ignore this post ..

  • Thanks for the response. Yes, it is not immediately obvious that you would have to flip the slider to enable power from an external source, but I have done that. When I am in AMP mode with the external supply connected, and the 'Enable Power Output' slider off, I get 0V measured on Vout (as expected), but when I enabled the slider, I get 0.02v on Vout, not the expected 3V that is on Vin from my supply.

  • I reseated the wiring on one device and it appears to be working now. I am using the header breakout plugs included with the kit, but perhaps the pins just weren't making contact.
