PPK2 app failing to display device control widgets under Linux

Greetings,

I've got the power profiler app (v3.0.3, installed via the nRF connect desktop app v3.6.1) running under both Linux and Windows. 

With windows, seems to work nicely.  Under Linux (specifically Ubuntu 20.10, 5.8.0-38 kernel), the app connects but never hides the "instructions" tab nor displays the PPK2 control tab/widgets ("mode", "start sampling", etc), leaving me unable to use the device.

Attached, a screenshot of the device failing under linux (top) and working through windows (bottom).

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Looking at the screenshot again I see that the messages "PPK opened" "PPK started" is missing from the log, meaning that it's trying to connect but never finishes. Can you check dmesg to see if the USB is properly initialized? Does the PPK software have permissions to access the /dev/ttyACM*? You can try to install the udev-rules to set up all user access to Nordic devices: https://github.com/NordicSemiconductor/nrf-udev

You are correct.  Checking in dmesg logs I found

[26854.951018] cdc_acm 1-4:1.1: ttyACM0: USB ACM device
[26862.441292] usb 1-4: usbfs: process 15058 (nrfconnect) did not claim interface 0 before use

Providing access to ttyACM0 resolved the issue.
