Advice about PCA10040 and MDBT42Q that implemented as transmitter/receiver RF

Hi

Now I have a PCA10040 board and MDBT42Q board. I intend to transfer data between two boards via ESB TX and ESB RX example. However, with MDBT42Q I used nRFgo Studio to compile by .hex and I realized that I could not use ESB .hex file to program because ESB doesn't have the supported softdevice (s132). On the other hand, I dont know can I transmit and receive data when I implement PCA10040 to program MDBT42Q via J-link on PCA10040.
 And does anyone use UART on MDBT42Q to debug ? I try to connect TX, RX pins following the MDBT42Q schematic but it doesn't work. Or does anyone have another way in order to debug MDBT42Q except UART, please let me know.

Hi,

You should not use nRFgo Studio for programming nRF52 devices, this is old and outdated. Instead you can use nrfjprog command line tool, nRF Connect Programmer application, or simply flash the board directly from SES.

In SES, you can also start a debug-session to debug the application. See this video tutorial for more details.

Not sure I understand your question. 

If you mean serial/debug data, you can use RTT for sending and receiving strings over the SWD interface.

If you are referring to transmitting and receiving data over ESB, this is not limited by the programming interface/device used to flash the chip.

For example, I build ESB_low_power_prx_pca10040 in PCA10040 nRF52832 board, and then with MDBT42Q I build ESB_low_power_ptx_pca10040 program via SWD interface from PCA10040 board. After that, I want to transmit and receive data between them. So my question is:

Is it possible to transmit/receive data among these boards when they are linked by SWD interface?

Yes, the SWD interface is only used for flashing/debugging the chips, it does not affect other functionality on the chips. You should be able to trensmitt/receive data between the board over the ESB protocol.
