VBUS & VDDH Power configuration for nrf5340

Hi,

We are working on a board with nrf5340. We are running the nrf5340 in normal voltage mode. So, we have connected the VDD lines to 3.3V. Since we are using USB signals, we have connected VBUS to a 5V supply.

We have found a statement in the nrf5340 PS v1.0 (page 788) which asks to connect VBUS to VDDH "When supplying power from a USB source only, VBUS must be connected to VDDH if USB is to be used.".

Our doubt is whether we need to connect the VDDH to VBUS? or connect VDDH to VDD?

From the statement, we think there is no need to connect VBUS to VDDH since our supply is not only from USB power. Please confirm. Attached the image of our schematics design.

Also, please confirm that nrf5340 PS v1.0 is the latest version of Product specification (because we found many differences in the pin names & configuration between previous revision PS found online). Please confirm whether the latest reference design is nRF5340-QxAA-Reference-Layout-1_0.zip which is to be followed.

Thanks in Advance!

  • Hi,

Yes, this is correct. VBUS should not be connected to VDDH if you are already supplying the board from another power source. However,  VDDH and VDD should be tied together in Normal voltage mode:

And remove the 5V_RF net from VDDH, as the voltage limit in normal mode for VDD is 3.6 V.

Also, please confirm that nrf5340 PS v1.0 is the latest version of Product specification

    v1.0 is indeed the latest.
