Locator Engine Provision

Hello,

Are there plans from Nordic to provide locator engine to customers? Other competitors offer this benefit, which reduces development time on the client side to create their own locator engine. This is a make/break decision based on the cost associated with developing our own locator engine versus leveraging one from Nordic.

Please provide more information about your application, which nRF5 chip are you using. Could you explain a little bit more on the locator engine ? Are you talking about AoA AoD ? Or it's GPS you are asking ?

Hello Hung,

I am looking specifically at the NRF52832 for BLE and NFC. We will be leverage AoA and AoD for RTLS and data load transmissions to edge devices so the use of a locator engine will be required. Are there plans to allow your customers to access/configure a locator engine for supporting dynamic RTLS environments? Otherwise we would have to develop our own locator engine in house and would likely eliminate Nordic from consideration since other competitors offer their locator engines as part of the package.

Hi Ryan, 
We currently don't provide AoA AoD solution for nRF52832. The radio hardware on the chip doesn't support Bluetooth Direction Finding feature. I assume you are talking about proprietary solution. Could you give more information about the solution you are using ? 

In our nRF52 family lines we have the following chips that has support of Direction Finding in hardware: https://www.nordicsemi.com/Products/Low-power-short-range-wireless/Direction-finding
With such chip, we do provide you the full solution for RTLS.

Thank you Hung. So on the nRF5340 and nRF52833, the full RTLS locator engine is available from Nordic? If this is the case that would be great as we don't want to have to develop our own proprietary location engine as part of the RTLS solution.
