Regulatory Conformance Issues migrating from nrf52840 to nrf52833

Hi. I have certified my products for FCC and CE-RED using nrf52840 SoC. For cost savings and supply issues I'm looking at also using nrf52833 instead of nrf52840. If I'm using the same S140 softdevice on both nRF52833 and nrf52840 then is there any difference from the radio system perspective inside the chips?

The reason to ask this is because I'm wondering if i can just declare nrf52833 as an alternative to nrf52840 in documentation and use it in production (with recompiled application ofcourse) or if the radio front ends etc are different so i'll need to spend lot of time and money to requalify product using nrf52833.

Thanks

  • Since this is a new part number, you have to do the certification again.

You might be able to do a "light" version, since the chip is drop in compatible, but you have to check with the test houses.

  • I like to use nRF52840 now instead of nRF82833 which was used during the CE-RED compliance test.
I only like to change the nRF chip. All other components at the PCB will stay the same. Software of course will be done for the nRF52840.

    Questions:

    1.
Is it possible just to replace the nRF52833 one by one with the nRF52840 without doing any other changes at the hardware or the antenna design?

    2.
Is the radio front end the same so that the Radio EMC will be unaffected?

Thank you for your support and service.

    Best regards,
