How to acquire a vendor base UUID?

I want to give my own custom characteristics fully unique UUIDs, but am unsure how to generate those.

Is there a procedure to generate a custom, vendor-specific base UUID? Do you have to pay the bluetooth SIG for one? If so, where is the form or place to do this?

How do I get a unique base-id for my organization? Similar to this:

0x0000xxxx-0000-1000-8000-00805F9B34FB

Where I can then replace the xxxx with a 16-bit value of my choosing.

Hi,

Bluetooth SIG recommends you to just use the tool found here to generate your UUID. It is extremely unlikely that you will generate a UUID that collides with some other company, so you are not required to register or pay for it. I am not not even sure the SIG even gives you the option to register it at the moment.

Unfortunately, the specification has no flexibility in this. Please raise a new question if you are having problems with this, as this one is answered and will get little attention.
