Schematic symbol drawing standard

On Nordic reference schematics the nRFxx symbols are designed with pins in all directions (up, down, left, right)

with the pin numbers 1,2,3.. placed in a 'PCB layout view'.

This is not according to 'normal' ways of designing schematic symbols where the pins are located horisontal (left, right)

and organized in groups according to function.

In my opinion the 'Nordic' symbols are more difficult to read and the schematics gets messy because the signal labels are vertical.

Is there a reason for this approach and can new symbols be made more 'normal' in the future?

  • Hi Rune,

we have always done it in this way, because it's easier to relate to the mechanical drawing and the physical placement of the pins on the chip.
This also makes it easier to see where you should place the right decupling capacitors in the layout.

This is not done in our newest reference design for the nRF53 series.

    Best regards,
    Kaja
