Approach for using nRF52840-Dongle in C-Program (LabWindows CVI)

Hello,

I want to use / control the  nRF52840 Dongle within our own software . We are writing our own production and testing tools in a c-compiler (LabWindwos-CVI) environment.

What we want to do is in the beginning pretty much the same that the nRF Connect Tool Bluetooth Low Energy does: 

1. Find / select attached dongle

2. Scan / discover devices (in our case it is a bluetooth controlled motor, that is developed within the company)

3. Connect to the selected device (motor)

and than we want to exchange commands (following our own command structure).

Finally: Disconnect

It is the first time that we are working with bluetooth, so I do not really have a glue how to start. We want to use the Nordic dongle, because than we are always on the same Hardware and independend from the hardware of a PC or Notebook.

Is there a C Library / API / DLL that we can use to start our own software tool (software, not firmware) ?

Hardware: Nordic  nRF52840-Dongle, Development Software: LabWindows CVI 2020.

As awneil says, the nRFConnect BLE app is based on the serialization firmware. However it is slightly modified compared to the stock serialization firmware in the SDK (see this patch).

You can flash the connectivity hex from pc-ble-driver repository (https://github.com/NordicSemiconductor/pc-ble-driver/blob/v4.1.1/hex/sd_api_v3/connectivity_4.1.1_usb_with_s132_3.1.0.hex) to your board, it should work with the nRF_USB port of the PCA10056 board.

I will check it. But I want to use the PCA10059 (nRF52840-Dongle) if possible , not the PCA10056 (nRF52840-DK)

As you can see in the PC BLE Driver documentation, the nRF52840 Dongle can use connectivity firmware with the Nordic USB CDC serial port support. It is explained how to flash the connectivity firmware onto the Dongle in the Readme.md on GitHub.
