Power Analysis_PPK2 - nRF5340 - Peripheral LBS _ Average is too high

I did current measurement on nRF5340 DK with PPK2 kit.

I’m using the Ampere Meter Mode, and cut the SB40 on nRF5340 DK.

    • On Connection:
      • Duration: 2m
      • Max: 15.93mA
      • Average: 874.01uA

the average looks too high, any idea why the average is high? (assume the project is not optimized for power consumption)

what is the normal average current for Advertisement & on connection? (with UART / with UART disabled, Tx 0dBm) ?

previous measurement on nRF52832,

  • ~30-40uA with UART disabled and
  • >150uA with UART.

Thanks,

Ji

  • Hi

Yes, this seems to be due to the Peripheral LBS sample not being optimized very well for current consumption. We don't have any official numbers as to what the expected average current for various BLE scenarios will be yet, as we're still working on an Online Power Profiler for the nRF5340, where the expected current consumption scenarios will be added.

I have asked for some estimates internally and we're currently in the process of testing. I will get back to you as soon as I have some numbers for you here.

    Best regards,

    Simon
