Location service using already in use mesh network

Hi,

We are using mesh SDK 5.0 on NRF52840 integrated with PIR and light level sensors for office lighting, it works well. 

Now we'd like to check if we can expand the system with location service using this mesh network. The idea is that if these mesh nodes can do scanning every 1 minutes, it will scan the nearby beacon/tag devices and report the RSSI. Using these RSSIs we can calculate the approximate distance.

Would you please help check if the mesh node can do such kind of scanning periodically？Thanks

Hi,

If the node is a relay node, then it will already be scanning most of the time, and you can set a callback function with nrf_mesh_rx_cb_set() that will be called every time the scanner receives an advertisement that is not handled by the mesh stack. For an example of the RX callback being used, see the Beaconing example. For the scanner packet type, RSSI is part of the metadata of the nrf_mesh_adv_packet_rx_data_t structure that you receive in the callback.

If the node is not a relay node, you need to combine nRF5 SDK for Mesh and nRF5 SDK functionality, and use scanning from nRF5 SDK.
