Hi,

this at-command provides the cell ID of the connected cell, but only physical cell ID for neighboring cells.  Is the cell ID of neighboring cells limited by the LTE protocol?

As far I as I know, cell ID (and not physical cell ID) is required for cellular based positions using a Geolocation API. Or am I wrong?

Best regards,

Marius

  • Hi Marius,

    Our experts reply:
We do have serving as a "global cell id" format. That is the parameter <cell_id>, 4 byte E-UTRAN cell id. That will specifically identify the cell in the world, and (assumption) is to up to location API to utilize the information of neighboring physical cell ID's. For neighboring cell ID's, to get the whole 4-byte E-UTRAN cell id, that is limited currently by modem firmware.

I am told that a sample is currently in progress, however, we do not have a timeline at this moment.

    Kind regards,
    Øyvind

  • Hi,

    Thanks!

    I have 3 more questions:

    1. Are you familiar with the features of the API you refer to in your LTE Link Monitor?

    2. An LTE request to this API requires cell IDs, not. Does this mean this %NCELLMEAs only provide information regarding        the connected cell for localization purposes at the moment?

    3. By saying:

For neighboring cell ID's, to get the whole 4-byte E-UTRAN cell id, that is limited currently by modem firmware.

Do you mean that scanning Cell IDs of nearby cells is possible with LTE-M, but not implemented in the current FM version?
