nRF5 SDK for Thread and Zigbee

SDK 4.1.0 does not appear to be compatible with the latest OpenThread project.  Instructions in the documentation (https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/index.jsp?topic=%2Fsdk_tz_v4.0.0%2Fthread_ot_libraries_building.html) for Windows utilizes a makefile that references files that do not exist (cli_console.cpp, cli_server.cpp, ...).

The Linux build also now does not support the specified makefiles.

Can Nordic update the SDK/documentation to keep up with the latest OpenThread changes?

Hi Matthew,

Sorry for your struggling, you may not realize that we are shifting from legacy nRF5 SDK to nRF Connect SDK(NCS) now. The nRF5 SDK is on maintain stage, which means there will be no big updates in the future. For your new application, we strongly suggest you start from NCS. NCS provides flexible solutions for the OpenThread libraries selections.

When I follow the "flexible solutions" link above, it takes me to nRF Connect SDK 1.7.99. The newest SDK version installed using the Toolchain manager is 1.7.0.

Is SDK 1.7.99 required to get all the Thread support? I am particularly interested in multi-protocol support. SDK 1.7.0 does include the "Thread CLI" example.

If it is required; how do I install? Is it compatible with the new VCS plugin?

Not really, you should use NCS v1.7.0 for your development. See the NCS v1.7.0 document Thread protocol part to learn how OpenThread is supported in this version. There is also one section that introduces how to add Multiprotocol support. The Thread: CoAP Client sample support Multiprotocol Bluetooth LE extension.

You can find the information from Installing automatically VCS is been supported from NCS v1.7.0.

Hello Charlie,

 in my question I specifically referenced SDK version 1.7.99. When I clicked on one of you links this is where I saw sent. The version I installed is 1.7.0. I do realize this has some OpenTread support but not everything in the original SDK. 

What is version 1.7.99?
