Which developer OS is best for nRF9160 SDK development? [Windows | Mac | Linux]

I am new to IoT development, and am working with the Nordic Thingy:91, and nRF9160 development kit as a starting point for development.  Is there a preferred operating system for developers to use? The Nordic SDK supports Windows, MacOS, and Linux, but it looks like there are some variances between what each OS supports in relation to the Nordic SDK. I have access to all of these operating systems, but would prefer to work on the platform that best supports all the features and functionality of the platform.

  • Hi Phil,

I dont think there is on correct answer here as it depends. If there is one system that you are mor comfortable with then choose that one but in general i think Windows is the go to. Linux has some more support but not much and if you want to you use Linux you can always use WSL on windows. If you are planning on using the toolchain manger in the nrf connect for desktop then Windows does tend to be a tad bit more user friendly from my experience.

Feel free to ask more questions if there is anything specific.
    Regards,
    Jonathan
