NRF9160 SIP GCF certification

Hi,

Hope someone can help with the following Q:

We are planning to make an new battery based iot sensor design based on NRF9160 SIP mounted on our own pcb with several sensors.

must be used in EU only.

we expect to start up in low volumen 500pcs or so.

Our biggest concern is the certification costs.

Mandatory is GCF, CE RED EMC etc.

but what about GCF - can we use the one for the NRF9160 SIP? or must be make a new GCF certification for our product?

I have google that a GCF cert. for an iot product easily can cost 10-20K EURO.

Hi!

GCF certification is applicable both for module manufacturers and end-product manufacturers, so you will need an end-product GCF certification, even though the module is certified. 

Talk to the carrier you are going to use to get information about what certification they require you to have.

Do someone have an approx. cost estimate for an end-product GCF cert. based on NRF9160?

we expect to have an internal fpc antenna.

Hi, I have some follow-up information for you. 

The number and the scope of the tests required to certify a product is significantly reduced when the certification of its embedded wireless module can be referenced (the nRF9160 SiP certification)

The certification testing for the product will then be focused on functionality that is not a part of the module such as antenna, SIM- and user interfaces.

For a cost estimate, you will have to contact a certification test house.
