I am not able to connect through Bluetooth using Coin cell in nRF52840 DK board

As mentioned in the DK board User guide nRF52840_DK board is preprogrammed, so, till now we didn't flash the DK board.

I tested the nRF52840_DK board using J2 USB connector then tested the Bluetooth connection using nRF connect desktop app that is working fine.

Now we want to test the DK board using Coin cell provided along with DK board. Below are the setup details, i am not able to connect Bluetooth from DK board to nRF connect mobile/desktop Apps.

  1. Inserted coin cell in the given slot.
  2. SW9 (nRF Power source) position set to LiPo.
  3. Power ON the board using SW8.
  4. Observed LEDs are not glowing on the DK board.
  5. Opened nRF connect mobile app and desktop app but not showing the device name in both apps.

Please provide the reference document with how to connect through nRF connect Desktop and mobile apps when powering the board using Coin cell battery.

Here our main intension is nRF52840 DK board should power through battery and without using USB, because in our custom board we have used nRF52811 SoC and board will power thorough battery, there is no provision of external power supply/USB.

Regards,

Jyothi.

  • Hello Jyothi,

    • Inserted coin cell in the given slot.
    • SW9 (nRF Power source) position set to LiPo.

An exempt from the Power Source section of the nRF52840 DK documentation reads:

In the VDD position, the SoC is powered either from the onboard buck regulator, coin cell battery, or external supply (P21). In the Li-Po position, the high voltage regulator of the SoC is supplied directly from the Li-Po battery connectors (J6 or P27).

Please set the switch to VDD, and see if your kit starts responding. Furthermore, make sure that SW6 is set to DEFAULT if you intend to use the Interface MCU.
If the board is flashed with a peripheral BLE example it will indicate that it is advertising by blinking LED 1, and you should see it show up in your nRF Connect BLE application when you are scanning for BLE devices.

Please do this, and let me know if it resolves your issue.

    Best regards,
    Karl

  • Hi Karl,

    Thank you for your response.

I flashed the board with BLE example and connected through coin cell. Now LED's are blinking and DK board connected to nRF connect mobile app through BLE. Thank you...

But DK board is not connected to nRF connect desktop App. Can you explain the probable reason.

    Regards,

    Jyothi.

I am glad to hear that this resolved your initial issue, and that the board now is working as expected - great! :)

Please elaborate on the issue you are facing. The more details you provide us, the easier it will be for us to resolve your issue.
What are you seeing in the nRF Connect desktop application? Are you able to scan for advertising devices? Do you find any devices at all, and are you able to connect to any of these devices?
What device are you using for your connectivity bridge for the nRF Connect application?

    Best regards,
    Karl
