The issue with connecting with a sniffer.

Hi,

We bought 2 pcs of nRF52840 Dongles and want to use them to test if a nearby BT device has the correct MAC address.

I've programmed them with "sniffer_nrf52840dongle_nrf52840_7cc811f.hex" file and tried to use them according to this instruction https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/index.jsp?topic=%2Fug_sniffer_ble%2FUG%2Fsniffer_ble%2Finstalling_sniffer.html but devices most of the time does not appear in Wireshark or cmd line. Sometimes after a long time when the PC is running interfaces are recognized but only after reset they disappear.

This is how devices appear in my system. I've tried also to use them with other PC but the same result (sometimes recognized, but most of the time not).

Maybe you could help us with this issue or propose something easier to use to read nearby device MAC address.

I just tested this on my end, and when I flashed the sniffer_nrf52840dongle_nrf52840_7cc811f.hex file onto the nRF52840 Dongle using the nRFConnect for Desktop Programmer app, it immediately was recognized by the computer as an nRF Sniffer for Bluetooth LE device. See picture below. 

 

Are you using a USB hub between the Dongle and PC for instance? What version of nrfjprog and J-Link are you using? J-Link should not be necessary, but nrfjprog is.

Could you tell me which driver are you using for that? In my device manager, dongle appears as "USB Serial Device", maybe it's the problem.

I have installed the latest version of J-Link and nrfprog.
