Overvoltage supplied to ADC pin

Hi,

I am using nrf52840 mcu, accidently 11 volt power supplied  on ADC pin(AIN7).

I thought the pin was blown, but when I supplied a voltage below 3.6V to the adc pin, I noticed that ADC pin is working properly.

But Current consumption of custom board increased.

So I just want to know  Why current consumption of the board increased while ADC measurement working properly?

probably the chip has been damaged, so leakage has increased.

But chip is working, ADC is also giving right decimal value as per input voltage, Is there any internal protection diode used which is blown, due to this leakage current increased?

Any voltage above the rated max voltage of 3.6 V will cause permanent damage. If not functional, the internal circuitry may be damaged and anything can happen.

Replace the chip.

but, clearly, the chip has been affected - so best to just consider it "damaged" and move on.

It's like a car that's been involved in an accident: it might look OK on the outside, and it might seem OK when you drive it - but there is likely to be hidden damage, and/or parts have been over-stressed, and could break at any moment.
