use nrf52 for scanning Wifi base station advertisements

Hey all!

We want to improve the accuracy of the localization of our asset tracking solution, in particular indoors.
For that we want to scan Wifi base station advertisments.

Because we use a Thingy as a prototyping platform, I thought that we maybe could use the nRF52840 for scanning, because of the same operating frequency range of bluetooth and wifi.
Does anyone have any experience with this or an opinion on it? Is this total nonsense or a dirty hack and thus maybe worth a try?

Hi Rudolph, 

No, I don't think you would be to capture wifi packet from the nRF52840. The frequency bands between BLE and Wifi has some overlapping but the modulations are different. 
Unless the Wifi base station also send some BLE advertising packets, you won't be able to track the wifi station.
