Problem connecting Thingy:91 to cloud

I'm having trouble connecting Thingy:91 to cloud.

I've installed both the modem and HEX image in the board successfully.

I've added the SIM card successfully to the cloud account.

The problem is that when I turn on the device for it to connect to the cloud and wait for user association, it never does so, the LED is blue and continuously blinking, never changes to yellow.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Saul,

Did you manage to get it to work? Any feedback from iBasis?
I'm asking because I've also had only unsuccessful attempts to register to the network in Portugal. I tried using the Hologram SIM card and never got the LTE registration working, neither in LTE-M or NB-IoT mode. The same SIM card worked perfectly well in Poland and in Norway.

This led me to think that maybe portuguese providers allow access only for their own SIM cards (which, by the way, are almost impossible to get for a foreigner).

I will be grateful for some info about that, as I would like to work on some projects in Portugal.

    Regards,

    Maciek

  • Hello Maciek,

    Sorry for the late response.

    1. One thing I know for sure is that the iBasis SIM Card doesn't work here.

    2. I have some mixed feelings about iBasis feedback, they've been passing me from person to person, and they keep repeating me to do the same steps over and over when I've said multiple times they do not work .... so the problem is still unresolved. Since I'm working in multiple things at the moment and this isn't that important for me right now, I'm putting this on standby, but when I get back to it, I'll probably try with a local ISP card, if it still doesn't work I'm probably moving to another product from someone else ...

    3. As for the LTE-M network in Portugal, I've searched everywhere and it doesn't seem there is any launch yet (compliant with the AT responses from the Thingy 91), only NB-IoT seems to be available but unreachable. The thing is, even if NB-IoT is the only available in Portugal, I wouldn't be surprised if only the 3 big ISPs here (NOS, MEO and Vodafone) were able to work in these bands, since they are pretty much the ones that launched them so they  capitalize all the market here.

Most likely the only solution is getting some kind of subscription for a pack of IoT Sim cards from one of these ISPs (which is the solution most ISPs give), but from what I've seen in all of their 3 websites, there isn't many information about NB-IoT solutions other than "closed" solutions provided by themselves, which I do not want.

    Best regards,

    Saul
