Dear Dan,
For the device (can be separated by salestype):
- nRF9160-SICA-R is Gen1 device
- nRF9160-SICA-B1A-R is Gen2 device
For the DK (more difficult):
- most likely Mouser DK's have Gen2 nRF9160
- to be sure it is better to verify with Mouser (DK rev 1.0.0 or higher has Gen2 device).
Sincerely, Mika
What are the differences between Gen1 and Gen2?
I plan to order a prototype and Gen2 does not seam to be available, if I choose the "*SICA-R" instead of "*SICA-B1A" will the software written for the DK kit (Gen2) be compatible to the Gen1 version?
When is normal availability of Nordic IC:s expected?
Regards
Filip
Hey,
afaik, modem v1.3+ is not recommended for Gen1, so you will have to use v1.2.3.
> What are the differences between Gen1 and Gen2?
see errata page, which highlights what was fixed and what is still broken:
https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/topic/struct_nrf91/struct/nrf9160_errata.html
> will the software written for the DK kit (Gen2) be compatible to the Gen1 version
for me everything works just fine, but make sure that errata items are not affecting you.
Thank you _dev_
I still get very confused, when looking at the errata or the comparability matrix
There is no mention of the -R version, is R = B0 or BA ?
The same goes for modem version, the highest version is v1.2.3
Thanks!

Hi,
-R means reel. Please see Product options.
Any particular questions on Modem version? Seems the compatibility matrix is not yet updated with v1.3.0. but you can find more information on the downloadstab: https://www.nordicsemi.com/Products/nRF9160/Download#infotabs
Ok thanks so the confusion is from Digikey who skips the B0 in the part number I assume
