nrf 52833 AoA direction finding interface with Wifi module

We are developing AoA direction finding with nrf52833 and antenna array. We also want to include Wifi connectivity to our receiver, having nrf52833 + antenna array. Which Wifi chip would be appropriate and if you can suggest the interface between the two. We were thinking about ESP8266, but are open for any IC.

  • Hello,

Which Wifi chip would be appropriate and if you can suggest the interface between the two. We were thinking about ESP8266, but are open for any IC.

None of our products currently support WiFi, and we therefore do not have any WiFi device recommendations, since it is outside of our scope of operation.
I have no personal experience with the ESP8266, but I have seen multiple other customers mentioning that they are using this as a WiFi module, so I suppose this is a good choice - but I really can not recommend one over any other at this time. As long as it exposes an interface compatible with the nRF52833, you should be fine to use it.

Please keep in mind that the noise generated by a nearby WiFi module might degrade your radio performance. I have not done any tests on this for AoA, but I would think this might be the case here as well. If this turns out to be an issue you could perhaps look into time-slotting the two protocols, so that they might perform to their fullest in their own timeslot.

    Best regards,
    Karl
