PPK2 Reverse Current protection

Hello,

In development I would like to put the ppk2 in Source Mode in place of the battery to power my DUT. The DUT has a charge circuit which may apply a reverse current to charge. Is there protection on Vout, or would I expect to break the ppk if the charger kicks in? I'm also curious about Vin when running in Ampere mode.

Thanks

  • Hello,

This should likely be fine. The PPK2 has diodes protecting the sampling circuit. These diodes should be able to handle 1A.

Most times it would likely be OK to have a charging circuit in the DUT. The charging circuit is likely to detect that it can't charge the battery and then it will not actually try to charge. If you would like to check the charging current you would need to connect PPK2 in Ampere Mode and let the battery be connected to VOUT. I have not tested this myself but it is supposed to work.

A typical charging circuit for common low power devices usually would not charge with a strong current before detecting that the battery is within the nominal range.

Please let us know if you experience any issues or damage or to your PPK2 going forward with the measurements.

    Best regards,

    Håkon

  • Hi, in my case the PPK2 is measuring and in the power usage i get the SUM between my solar panel reverse power + my board consum, really is strange. If the PPK2 has that diodes then i never must see that draw from PPK2
