Migrating from NRF52832-QFAA to NRF52832-CIAA

We have an existing product that uses a module containing NRF52832-CIAA

Due to supply issues we are looking to respin our board to use a different module that contains NRF52832-QFAA

Looking through the data sheet I see no explanation of the differences though I do see that at a chip level the power pins connect in a slightly different fashion.

As we are using modules then the on module power internal connection is not a significant issue, so long as we follow design guidelines for supply connection and filtering on our own PCB.

However I would like to know how these two Nordic parts differ, specifically if there are any changes to the micro silicon that might lead us to require a firmware change when migrating.

Are there any documents detailing the differences please?

Thanks

  • Hello,

As long as the module are designed correctly there should be no problem switching to the module using the nRF52832-QFAA. One thing to keep in mind is to check if the new module contains the 32.675MHz crystal, if the previous module have it and you are using it then a change in firmware to disable it is required. Otherwise there should be no changes needed.
