Documentation clarification suggestion for "Master Control Panel" term

Hi,

In many places in the nRF51 documentation (e.g. developer.nordicsemi.com/.../a00081.html) the term "Master Control Panel" is used without clarification that this is referring to the desktop PC "Master Control Panel" software, not the equivalently named mobile application software.

This is particularly confusing when one is only using the Android "nRF Master Control Panel" app and the documentation says "Click the 'Enable services' button on the Master Control Panel" because the app doesn't have an "Enable services" button.

It would be helpful if a future documentation update: (a) changed these instructions to make it clear it's referring to the desktop PC software; and, (b) the instructions also included how to perform the equivalent operation in the mobile apps (e.g. by clicking on the "triple arrow"--which has considerable latency on updating the icon but that's for another bug report :) ).

Thanks.

  • I understand it is a bit confusing.

Master Control Panel is for PC and nRF Master Control Panel is for Android.

All of the "Testing" sections in the SDK documentation is saying Master Control Panel, and are referring to Master Control Panel for PC. But I agree that this could be made clearer.

Thank you for the feedback regarding instructions on how to do the testing with nRF Master Control Panel.

I will relay your feedback to the developers. Thank you.

  • Master Control Panel is for PC and nRF Master Control Panel is for Android.

FWIW it seems the names are used a little inconsistently. e.g. on the "DEVELOPMENT TOOLS AND SOFTWARE" tab of www.nordicsemi.com/.../nRF51422 it says "nRF Master Control Panel ... MCP is available as application on Android as well as windows PC" but on the downloads tab it does say "Master Control Panel with Master Emulator API (32-bit)" although the link itself is titled "nRF-MCP-x86".
