UART/NUS no longer functional on latest nRF toolbox iOS app

Hi,

The most recent version of nRF Toolbox v5.0.4 for iOS cannot see or connect any of my devices (nrf52832, SDK 15.3.0, s132_6.1.1) in the NUS/UART section of the app. It was working fine in the previous app builds as recently as a few weeks ago.

Has anyone else had the same issue recently? Is there an update required to the UART service on the peripheral side?

Thanks

  • Hi epeterson117,

I have no nRF52DK on hand so I tested with nRF52840DK, everything works as expected.

Are you able to find your device by scanning with nRF Connect for iOS or nRF Connect for Desktop? The issue may not on the app side if you are not able to see its advertising info.

Please double-check your hardware and firmware.

    Best regards,

    Charlie

  • Hi Charlie,

I can connect to my device with a PCA10056 dev board (nRF52840) and nRF Connect for Desktop. I also see the UART over BLE service in addition to GAP/GATT/and DIS.

Is there another app I can use to verify the NUS/UART-BLE service?

    Thanks for your help,

    Evan

  • We have not changed our hardware and firmware recently. The NUS functionality on the nRFToolbox app stopped working at v5.0.4. It has worked normally for 3+ years up to this point.

  • Hi,

May I know how many of your custom boards you have tested? and have you tested your boards with nRFToolbox for Android at the sametime? Please also uninstall and reinstall the app to try.

I will try to borrow some nRF52DKs tomorrow to verify this issue.

    Best regards,

    Charlie

  • Hi Charlie,

I have tested with 3 different custom boards. Each uses the NRF52832 in different approved modules.

nRF Toolbox on android works with our boards. iOS does not work on any, even after a reinstall. There is no scan response on iOS.

UART 2.0 on android does not work with any. It's behavior is similar to nRF Toolbox on iOS. No scan response.
It seems like the issue is isolated to iOS, with the one exception on Android being the UART 2.0 application - however I believe this app is no longer supported.
