nRF connect tool manager V1.6.1

I am attempting to build a project with the command line tools as described in: https://developer.nordicsemi.com/nRF_Connect_SDK/doc/latest/nrf/gs_programming.html, but it takes 20 minutes to get 140 files compiled out of 254. It grinds my whole Windows 10 system to halt. Task manager indicates that the CPU usage is only a couple of percent while this is happening. The system runs on an Intel i7 i7740x which is an 8 core processor at 4.3 GHz clock speed. I have 32 GB of ram installed and an 500 GB SSD, which has 30GB free of 433GB. I do not experience any kind of delays when working, ever.

What is happening with this tool chain building a fairly simple example project?

  • Thanks for providing that information. From the title of you ticket I assume that you are using Toolchain Manager to install NCS v1.6.1?

There have been previous issues where the antivirus has interfered with the build process. If you do have an antivirus software running can you please try to pause this while building?

    Thanks.

  • I am unable to completely turn off the antivirus/malware services, but I have disabled windows defender. This is an an up to date windows 10 machine, inside the task manager the service still runs and can not just be shut down from within the task. I also think the service can not be easily shutdown from anywhere else. Is the nrfconnect compatible with win10?

  • The ap_client finally completed the build in about 6 hours and basically hijacks my machine as it does it. Not really a toolchain I can be using. Have you any other guesses as to the problem?
