No response to AT

I got up to this stage while trying to evaluate the module...

https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/index.jsp?topic=%2Fug_nrf91_dk_gsg%2FUG%2Fnrf91_DK_gsg%2Fintro.html

There is no response to AT+CFUN=4 (or even AT). I successfully updated the modem and application FW to the latest prior to this. I have tried switching the board on/off, etc. without success.

  • Hi,

What application are you running on the nRF91?

What are you using to send the AT comand?

Do you get any log from the device?

    Best regards,

    Didrik

  • I'm following the getting started guide for the dev kit. Terminal app in nRF Connect v3.7.1.

  • Sorry, this is my first exposure to your device and environment. I don't know what logs you are referring to, but I got these from the nRF Connect application. I am following the getting started guide here https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/topic/ug_nrf91_dk_gsg/UG/nrf91_DK_gsg/intro.html?cp=2_0_4

Can't seem to get your system to allow me to insert a file, so pasting here...

  • I was referring to the logs from the device, sent over UART. Depending on what tools you are using to send the AT commands, you should be able to see them there, e.g. if you are using the Link Monitor tool.

But, based on the log from the Programmer app, I believe I know what the issue is.

The images in the img_fota_* folders only contain the application, and not the bootloader, and are ment to be used for DFU. Either over UART, or over the air.

But, from the log, it looks like you are programming the device "normally", with a programmer. That will delete the bootloader, so that the application isn't able to boot.

Instead, you should be using the images in the img_app_bl folder.

  • I believe I have the right application now:

Parsing HEX file: D:\DriveOne1\OneDrive - LED Roadway Lighting Ltd\Designs\IntCellCntrl\Nordic\img_app_bl\nrf9160dk_asset_tracker_ltem_2021-06-25_7a076c22.hex

Still no response to AT commands. Here is what I see in the Terminal window...

  • It looks like it is not able to start the modem.

How did you program the modem? What file did you use?

Could you try to program the modem again?

  • I programmed the modem using the procedure in the Getting Started guide (mfw_nrf9160_1.3.0.zip). I note there is an extra _ character in this file versus what the guide says.

In any case, I tried programming it again. It said it verified successfully, but still no response to AT commands.
